The Western Peak
The Western Peak embraces outstandingly varied walking country from the splendour of Lyme Park to the heathery, gritstone scarps of the Roaches, and stretches from the windswept moors of Axe Edge and Morridge to the limestone secrets of the Manifold Valley. Most of the area falls within Staffordshire, some within Cheshire, which leaves little of Derbyshire in the Western Peak.
The main towns and villages include Leek, Macclesfield, Whaley Bridge, Buxton, Grindon, Onecote, Wetton, Butterton, Warslow, Hulme End, Hartington, Longnor, Meerbrook, Wincle, Gradbach, Flash, Wildboarclough, Macclesfield Forest, Bollington, Kettleshulme and Disley.
The highest points in the Western Peak include Ramshaw Rocks, Merryton Low, Gun, The Roaches, Shutlingsloe, Shining Tor and Windgather Rocks.
