The main towns and villages include Ashbourne, Buxton, Bakewell, Matlock, Hartington, Alstonfield, Ilam, Thorpe, Tissington, Parwich, Brassington, Elton, Longnor, Earl Sterndale, Monyash, Over Haddon, Youlgreave, Birchover, Rowsley, Winster, Carsington, Wirksworth and Cromford.
The highest points in the Southern Peak include Thorpe Cloud, Wolfscote Hill, Chrome Hill, Parkhouse Hill, Stanton Moor and Black Rocks.
