Shining Tor [Milldale] Peak District Hill

This was a short afternnon walk from Alsop En Le Dale to Milldale and back. It is always a good idea to make a circular walk if possible rathar than a "there and back" walk. Although it was nice and sunny it was very hazy today and therefore the views were not at their best.

After getting ready for my walk I went to pay for the car park. It was then I realised I did not have enough change! I was 50p short ... what a nightmare. Should I go and park somewhere else? No ... I had a brainwave (just the one of course!). I had parked close to an Ice Cream van so I decided to buy an Ice Cream to get some more change. So it seemed back to front for me as I was starting my walk with an Ice Cream. At least it was warm day.

My walk today was about 6 miles and went via Nabs Dale, Dovedale, Milldale, Shining Tor, Lode Mill, River Dove and the Tissington Trail. Surprisingly there were very few people around. Dovedale is usually very popular especially in the holiday periods.

The walk has a lot of varied scenery with riverside walking as well as views from the top of the dales and walking along an old railway track. The walk lasted two and a half hours. During my walk I met a couple from Ashbourne who were walking through Nabs Dale in the opposite direction from me. I then met them again as I was leaving Milldale up the zig-zags towards Shining Tor. Apparently they were new to walking and when they saw me they wondered if I had run around to this point. Obviously I hadn't ... I just was ambling along.
