This was an excellent walk. Starting from the layby on the A591 near Town Head I walked to Helmside and then climbed Steel Fell. The ascent is reasonably easy as it is a long slowly rising ridge. At the summit the cloud obscured the sun but that did not spoil the experience. There was some snow still lying on the ground around the summit area.

I then walked to Calf Crag passing some small tarns and having a difficult time negotiating some very boggy terrain. Once at Calf Crag the weather improved a lot. The views were stunning. It seemed such a long time ago since I was last here.

I continued on my walk heading for Gibson Knott. On the way there was a hail storm but it did not last for long. I soon reached the summit of Gibson Knott. From here I could almost see the whole of todays walk. This is a great walk when the weather is so kind. I then headed to Helm Crag before returning to Town Head and my car. The walk was 7.5 miles with 775 metres of ascent.

In the end it was a perfect day.
