A Few Facts About Eycott Hill

Location And Summit -
Eycott Hill is located east of the Blencathra range of fells. It is on a small ridge along with Little Eycott Hill with no other fells around. Currently the area which incorporates Eycott Hill has difficult access to it. Eycott Hill stands at 345 metres (1,132 feet).

Cumbria Wildlife Trust Campaign -
Eycott Hill was identified by Cumbria Wildlife Trust four years ago as a potential new nature reserve as it ticks all the boxes - rare species and habitats, great opportunities for restoration, central location and much more. So when it came up for sale in November 2012 the Trust had to move quickly to secure its future. A sale price of £968,000 made the opportunity seem impossible until Esmée Fairbairn Finance Fund offered to purchase the land on behalf of Cumbria Wildlife Trust. They now have two years to raise the money to pay back the money or Eycott Hill could then be sold on the open market.

Eycott Hill is an exceptionally rich area of upland heath set in a spectacular location within the stunning scenery of the Lake District National Park. The summit is a short relatively flat walk from the road to a majestic view of the eastern flanks of Blencathra which dominates the western skyline. The area is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its geology and its biology. It comprises one of the oldest areas of volcanic activity in the Lake District and an extensive and unusual mire system with a number of rare plant species.
