A Few Facts About Great Meldrum

Birkett Fell -
Great Meldrum is ranked number 405 in height in the full Birkett listing and stands at 437 metres (1,434 feet). The summit area is covered with grass and moss. The views are good to Ullswater.

Location -
Great Meldrum is one of the fells in Gowbarrow Park situated above Ullswater. Gowbarrow Park was once home to a large herd of deer and evidence of old shooting boxes and stalkers huts can still be seen today. The deer have since been replaced by low numbers of hardy traditional sheep such as Herdwick to assist us in restoring heather and tree cover to the fell. Judging by the purple haze in summer it appears to be working.
